Samples galore!!

I am a subscriber to a great magazine called All You. It is only sold at Wal-Mart or you can subscribe to it and get it mailed to you. It has TONS of great coupons in it every month to the point where I almost (and I might!) want to subscribe to it twice so I can get two of them. It also has great recipes and tips and tricks as well.

Little did I know that on their website, they also have free samples with a new one posted every day! You can also go back and order the samples from several months ago as well. Thanks, Sharon, for telling me about this! We see many free samples in our mailboxes in our future!! And, don't forget that free samples normally come with high value coupons. Bonus!!

MIA?

I bet a lot of you thought I was MIA-missing in action. Well, there was a lot of action and I was missing, so I guess I was MIA! I cannot believe I let 4 days go by without a blog post, but I am really glad that I did. My family and I traveled up to Destin, FL to see my brother graduate from the medical residency program at Eglin AFB. Words cannot describe how PROUD I am of my brother. He is sooo smart. He always has been. But, to see him in his dress blues getting awards left and right and to see his wife so proud of him and supportive of him...nearly chokes me up. I am realllllly glad that we were able to make the trip to take part in the celebration.

My cousin, Denise, and her family were able to come from Tennessee too which was great to spend time with them and get to know her three boys in real life! There's only so much you can gather from pictures on-line and little stories here and there. All 5 of our boys had lots of fun playing together. Denise and her husband were so sweet and offered to watch my boys so that Matt and I could go to the banquet the night before the graduation. I am really glad we didn't miss that! It was a blast to hear everyone ragging on my brother for how crazy smart he is. In reality, you could tell, even amongst the joking, that he is highly respected and everyone truly looks up to him.

Most every one of the graduating residents have been assigned to different bases around the world (including Minot, North Dakota...brrr!) but Phil was asked to stay on at Eglin AFB for the next few years and come on staff. He will be teaching at the hospital and still seeing patients about 1/3 of the time. Congratulations Philip!

I loved meeting all the people I "know" so well from my sister-in-law's Joia's blog HERE. She has been posting about Wendi and Sarah and Jodi and Andrea and so many more of her friends for years now. So, although I knew all of their first and last names, their kids' names and ages, their husband's names, I had never met them in real life. They were all just as sweet and beautiful in real life. :) Please keep Philip and Joia in your prayers as they are excited to stay at Eglin, but most all of their friends are now moving to other bases very far away. It's a tough transition.

After graduation, Phil rented a boat and we had a picnic at a park and took turns taking rides on the boat and tubing. It was so fun and everyone had tons of fun.

Oh, I also made some fun purchases from Joia's new business Sugars and Spice; Tutus & More. Check it out HERE. This stuff is adorable and I was her first customer!! She since has had at least 2 more orders and I know they will start pouring in now.

Just got home, unpacked, ran to Walgreens for a last chance at the deals this week before they change tomorrow, finished a book review post and now finishing this post up. Gotta get dinner for my kids and Matt is bringing home Chinese for us. Hopefully, I can get back to posting daily if not multiple times per day. There are too many deals out there and I don't want you to miss out on them!

Book Review: Lead Like Ike

To tell you the truth, I wasn't thrilled about this one only because I realllly like fiction books, but it looked pretty good when I got a hold of it. BUT, my dad was in town and since I have 7 other books calling my name on my bedside table, I asked if he would like to read and review it. He said yes! He didn't get to finish it, but these are his thoughts about Lead Like Ike -Ten Business Strategies from the CEO of D-Day by Geoff Loftus:

"There are lots of things which do not transfer between the military and business worlds, but there are far more I now see that do.

Loftus does a nice job comparing the tasks of the military and that of the business enterprise. He gives both the positives and negatives and very relevant examples which add to interest. I got both a historical and business education all at the same time. It cause me to reevalute some of the things I am currently doing, both in business and in life, especially as it relates to communication and interpersonal relationships."

OK, now I kind of want to read the book! :) Thanks Dad!

Sugar and Spice/photography

My sister-in-law Joia, might be the most creative person I know with hands on crafty-type things. The things she comes up with are just AMAZING. She makes handmade cards for practically every occasion. These are not fold a piece of paper in half and write happy birthday type cards. These are amazingly complex and beautiful cards with her own tagline on the back "EnJOIAble cards" as a play off her name.

Another example of her creativity is this. She had a very crowded basement and she wanted to make a craft area. She cleaned it out (that would be where my expertise stopped-I can organize and declutter with the best of them but that is IT!) and then decided her creative area was not speaking to her. So, she just "came up with this" out of mid air: check out the post she did about it with before and after pictures HERE . Amazing.

So, keeping in line with her incredible creativity, she has started a business and a blog to go with that business called Sugar and Spice, Tutus Etc by Joia. She is handcrafting and selling these adorable tutus, butterfly wings, headbands and I am sure there is MUCH more to come. Check it out and order something if you feel so inclined. I will be heading up there next week so if anyone wants something, but doesn't want to pay shipping, let me know and I can get it for you and you can save $$ on shipping!

Joia also has a dessert blog that has some great recipes with lots of pictures and step by step instructions. EnJOIAble desserts, etc.

A tie in the creativity department would be my cousin Denise. She designed my blog, plus 4, yes 4, of her own blogs that she keeps running simultaneously. Oh, and let's not forget she has 4-year-old TRIPLET boys that she is an amazing stay-at-home too. I am in awe of these women that are related to me. :) Denise has been an amazing couponer/deal finder long before I started. She inspired me to start this money saving life I live now so thanks Denise!!! Poor girl has never lived near a CVS so she can't expend her full money saving energy, but one day I am hoping they build one near her!! :)

Denise is creative in every way, but especially when it comes to design. She has designed countless things for me including garage sale stickers. I have a lot of garage sales so she designed these adorable little tags. 12 of them fit on a 4 x 6 print so I signed up for CVS photo and as a new customer I got 50 free prints which gave me 600 garage sale tags. I can send you the jpg for that I believe if you are interested. Just post a comment with your e-mail address. You can still get the 50 free prints from CVS photo by signing up HERE.

She has also designed wedding invitations, birthday cards, Christmas cards, birth announcements...the list is endless. Her design blog is "For you by Dee" HERE.

Now, as if that wasn't enough?!? She has started a photography business. I am so thrilled about this one because she takes really awesome pictures. She has had her triplets as her guinea pigs for four years and takes the BEST pictures of them, but now she is going to share her talent with the rest of us. Unfortunately, she can't travel around the country to take pictures of everyone, but for those of you who live in Tennessee, you might be able to make it happen. Her new photography blog is Denise Slater Photography. Go check it out and see how great she is. :)

If you ever want to come back to these sites later, I will have a link to every one of them on the right hand side of my blog.

Happy birthday Daddy!

It's my dad's 55th birthday today! Every birthday is special, but this one is especially so because he is in the United States! My dad is a missionary in Kenya, Africa and he first boarded a plane for Kenya over 5 years ago right before his birthday. I told the people he was with to make sure they remember his birthday in Kenya, but they replied that birthdays are not a big deal over there and it likely wouldn't happen. :( My heart broke. I am really into making birthdays at my house very special. It's an all-day affair with special meals, homemade cakes and time spent together.

Fast forward 5 years. This is the first birthday (and first Father's Day!) my dad has celebrated in the States since he first left for Kenya and I am so excited to have him home!!
I love you Daddy. Hope your birthday today is wonderfully special and fun! SO glad to have you here with us. Thanks for being the best Dad a girl could ever ask for. :)

Tropical Smoothie: National Flip-Flop Day=Free smoothie!

Tropical Smoothie is having their fourth annual National Flip-Flop Day on Friday, June 18th (tomorrow!). Wear your flip-flops into any Tropical Smoothie and you will get a free 20 oz. Jetty Punch (strawberries and bananas) smoothie! They are giving out 500 at each location. I have done this at least 2 times in the past and every time, my boys wear flip-flops too and we get 3 free smoothies!

Go HERE to find a location near you. I would probably call before you go to make sure the 500 hasn't been given away already. In the past, I have gone in at all times of the day and they still had not reached the 500 so it is always worth a shot.

Thanks Lauren!

Request a free sample of Propel Fitness Drink Mix!!

Also, you can click on the tag at the bottom of the post that says "free samples" and it will take you to other free samples that I have posted in the past that you might have missed!

Camp Sunshine

My sister-in-law, Lauren, told me about this camp for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. Here is a blurb from their website:

"Nestled alongside the shores of beautiful Sebago Lake, Camp Sunshine provides respite, support, joy and hope to children with life-threatening illnesses and their immediate families through various stages of a child’s illness. The year-round program is free of charge to all families, and includes 24-hour onsite medical and psychosocial support. Bereavement groups are also offered for families who have lost a child to an illness."

That is just awesome! Obviously, the cost of running such a place is not free, but you can text the word CAMP to 20222 to donate $10 to Camp Sunshine. What is $10 in the grand scheme of it all? Two caramel macchiatos at Starbucks? I think it's worth skipping those two drinks for this great cause.

If you are not in the position to donate, just take a moment and pray for all the families who are attending the camp every year. Pray for healing and peace for these precious children and their families.

Hobby Lobby - Tips & Tricks

The other week at our last MOPs meeting, one of the moms passed on some information to me that I have never known about Hobby Lobby. I mean, I get their coupons, I watch their ads, items go 30-50% off quite a bit so I wait to purchase items.

She told me if you are purchasing non sale items, to ask if it was on sale the week before. If it was, they will give you the sale price! Most of the times when their items go on sale, they rotate being 50% off or close to it.

I didn't believe her. Could this really be true??? I spoke to a gentleman at my church who manages our local Hobby Lobby. Yes, it is true. Nationwide! The checkers will either have it memorized or have the past week's ad at their station. You don't even have to know if it was on sale the week before, you can just ask!

JUST in case the item is not on sale, sign up HERE for their weekly ad emails which also include a weekly coupon for one non-sale item.

Find a location near you HERE (or near where you will be visiting this summer :D )

Check their weekly ads HERE to see if any items you are wanting to purchase are on sale.

Good news for those of you that live by Jessica - on their site it says they are opening a store in Viera soon!

You have seen a Hobby Lobby around before, but have never stepped foot in there. Here are just a FEW things I have purchased from there!
  • craft kids for my kids
  • seasonal decor
  • scrapbooking paper, stickers, supplies
  • large mirrors
  • custom framing
  • picture frames
  • gift items
  • candles
  • party supplies and decor
Have fun, and enjoy your shopping!

CVS + Sears= AWESOME!

I am going to show how CVS + Sears are going to combine to make for one awesome deal. Here we go.

This week (starting today and ending Saturday, June 19th-the day before Father's Day), CVS has a deal where you buy $50 worth of Sears gift cards and you get $10 back in ECBs (Extra Care Bucks-basically CVS cash). Which is a great deal in and of itself. But wait...

Go spend the $50 at Sears on men's apparel and submit for the mail-in-rebate of $50 in "Come Back Cash" from Sears. Print the rebate form HERE. Your purchases have to be made between 6/11/2010 – 6/20/2010. Rebate must by post marked by 7/20/2010. This is PERFECT for Father's Day gifts.

So, you spend $50 at CVS, get $10 back to spend later. Go use your gift card at Sears, submit the rebate and get another $50 FREE to spend at Sears before the end of September. $100 of clothing for $40 basically. Is this not a good deal?!? I am leaving right now to go do it. Seriously. If you have any questions, let me know! :)

Fine print info: Limit one rebate per customer or email address. Excludes Lands’ End items. Come Back Cash will expired on 9/30/2010 and must be used on Men’s Apparel.

Book Review/Guest Blogger: Passionate Housewives Desperate for God

This post is by a friend of mine, Angela, over at Beyond Laundry. I have read this book as well (well almost all of it) and it is AMAZING. You will not have the ability to be selfish after you read this book. It really is incredible. :) Thanks for guest blogging, Ang!

Proverbs 31:10 "Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies."

Ah, the Virtuous Wife! Some women snicker, some women snear, some women throw their hands up in fear! The utterance of this woman of Proverbs 31 creates quite a stir in the Christian community. The longer I walk with the Lord the more I'm drawn to this woman. I no longer see her as a threat to my own abilities but rather I see her as an example that God fashioned right on the pages of His love letter to the female population. Our culture, even in Christian circles, has allowed the ideals of feminity to squelch God's perfect plan for womanhood. A friend of mine gave me the book you see to the left...I took a couple passages from this book and hope if you ever have time you too will read this little treasure!

The following excerpt is taken from the book, Passionate Housewives, Desperate for God by Jennie Chancey and Stacy McDonald:

"A godly keeper at home is absolutely not a lesser human being, a mindless robot, or a placid doormat under submission to all men; rather, she is created in the very image of God and of equal worth and value compared to man (Gen. 1:26-28). She is the crown of her husband (Proverbs 12:4), a helper suitable for him (Gen.2:18). Because she trusts God's wisdom in establishing perfect order for His creation, she willingly submits to her own husband as unto the Lord (Eph. 5:22-24)."

"Disguised as a sympathetic champion fighting against female oppression, the enemy has led many Christian women astray by whitewashing a pervasive evil - feminism, in all it ugliness. Since most of us have been brought up in a society already entrenched in humanistic, egalitarian thought, it is not surprising that we have feminist baggage we need to rid ourselves of. Even those of us who would recoil in horror at being thought of as a "feminist" battle the same old urge that Eve did...THE DESIRE TO BE IN CONTROL!"

If you want to read an amazing book and be challenged in your thinking I would absolutely recommend this book! You can order it at Amazon. Even if you are not a full-time, stay-at-home mom but you are a woman it is a must read. Several friends and I have not only read it once but use it on a regular basis as a reminder of the journey we are on as Passionate Women, Desperate for God! Happy Reading!

CVS: HOT Huggies deal upcoming!

Good news on 2 fronts! The $3/1 Huggies coupon has reset at coupons.com so you can print 2 more. Also, there are 30+ other coupons that are either new or reset from before. So, head on over and make sure you get all the coupons you want/need.

It would be especially good to have that $3 Huggies coupon because starting June 20th, at CVS, the Big Box of Huggies diapers will be $19.99 with $10 Extra Care Bucks (ECBs) back! That is unprecedented. You will usually either get NO ECBs back for diapers or just a piddly $1 or $2 ECBs. This is $10!!! Also, the coupon printer found at the front of every CVS store has been printing $3 CRTs (CVS coupons) and you can combine the two.

So, essentially, if you have both coupons, the transaction will go like this:

Box Huggies $19.99
-$3 CRT from CVS coupon printer
= $13.99
Receive $10 ECBs back for future transaction. Like paying $3.99 for a huge box of Huggies.
Woo-hooo!!!!!!!

If you have any questions, let me know. I will post a reminder on June 19th as well so no one forgets. :)
