Book Review: Fatal Conviction

Fatal Convictions

It's been a while since I have read such an engaging book. It captured me on the first page. It's a brand new book called Fatal Convictions by Randy Singer. It is a book all about "honor killings, " the horrendous practice that radical muslims believe in. Although this book is fiction, the research and accuracy is astounding. I was privileged to receive an advanced copy from Tyndale House Publishers a few weeks ago, but it has released now and is only 9.44 on Amazon (click link below). I love that it released in paperback too so it is instantly affordable.

I would highly recommend this book. It is a really well-written story, but it also makes you aware of heinous events that are happening in this world that we need to be praying about.

Bob Books/Scholastic 15% off + 10% cash back

The Well-Trained Mind: A Guide to Classical Education at Home (Third Edition)
I am starting a new adventure! Homeschooling my kids. Something I said I would NEVER do. Well, I think I have learned my lesson on the whole "never say never" thing because here I am. Now, that I am past all of the selfish reasons why I wouldn't want to do it-I am VERY excited. We started last week and my kids are doing wonderfully.

I am following a great method called the Classical Method. Everything you need to know from K-12 is in a book called The Well-Trained Mind. Thank you to my friend, Jillian, who originally told me all about it. I am so thankful. This method is very college-bound. If you choose, your child can be 100% fluent in Latin (and you probably will be too!) by the age of 16. The book is great and lays out step by step instructions as well as scientific documentation on the effectiveness of the method.

It gives an extensive list of curriculum to buy (several choices for each subject) and places to purchase. Since we are just starting kindergarten, I needed some beginning readers that my son could read all by himself to gain confidence in his reading. The most highly recommended ones in the book are called Bob books.

So, I was going to order the Bob books on amazon for 11.55 each (5 sets for $57.75 + free shipping-which is a good price). But, then my mom sent me a 10% off coupon code for Scholastic.com and so I figured I should compare prices to see if I could get them for any cheaper. Then, I thought to check the cash back site I try to always use when purchasing things on-line called Shop At Home to see if they gave any cash back to shop with scholastic and they do!! It is one of the highest percentages cash back I have seen-10% cash back!!

Basically, you would go to Shop At Home and then search for "scholastic". Then click the Shop Now button on the right-hand side and it will take you directly to Scholastic, but you will be earning 10% cash back. Plus, if you are a new sign-up, you will get $5 just for signing up.

The prices at Scholastic were a bit higher, 13.59 each. BUT, in addition to the 10% cash back on Shop At Home, they also had a 15% coupon code (SHOPHOME) AND free standard shipping on book orders over $25 (make sure you choose standard shipping at checkout). So, when all was said and done, I will pay 57.76 and then get 5.78 cash back so in essence, my total will be $51.98!! I was pretty excited. Each of the sets have 8 books so that is for 40 beginner readers for my kids.

Book Review: Cast of Characters

I don't know how Max Lucado manages to write so many books. And, even more than that...how does he continue to produce excellent work? He relies on the Lord, that's how. His latest book entitled Cast of Characters is a witty interpretation of a few select "characters" in the Bible and what they may have been thinking/dealing with in their starring roles. Characters like Joseph (Mary's betrothed), David, etc. It is realllly interesting and definitely puts a new spin on the stories you have heard and read over and over.

McDonald's: FREE Frappe or Smoothie

First of all, I apologize for my REALLY long absence in blogging. :) I took a quick trip to Hawaii! I have a goal of getting to all 50 states by the time I'm 30 and this was one of them I needed so I just HAD to go. :) Anyway, now I am back and hoping to get back to daily blogging.

I always buy at least 3 Sunday papers for the coupons, but I rarely look at any of the other inserts in the paper. Thankfully, I did today before I trashed them and found a coupon for a FREE McDonald's frappe or smoothie!! 3 papers = 3 free drinks! The coupon is found in the Parade or USA Weekend section.

Swagbucks FAQs

Swagbucks Guide:

What are Swagbucks: They are points that you rack up and then you redeem them for gift cards, prizes, ALL sort of stuff. 450 swagbucks are equal to a $5 Amazon gift card for example.

1. First way to earn is by searching. Instead of Google, use Swagbucks.com. Download the Swagbucks toolbar so you can always search right from there instead of going to swagbucks.com
a.) search everything i.e. yahoo mail, eccc.us, etc. You will earn SBs by searching several times per day
b) Also by having the toolbar and leaving a browser window open at night, you will have 1-3 swagbucks awarded in the morning when you wake up every single day.

2. On the top of Swagbucks.com. Click on Ways to earn and then special offers. On the right hand side, click on no obligation offers. Click skip or next offer on each offer through 1-5 offers and be awarded 1 swagbuck every day. There are also special offers that require you to do something or are trial things. Like Netflix, sign up and get 750 SBs or directTV or get a free auto insurance quote-all award you SBs

3. Also, every day, you can click on Ways to Earn and then click on Daily Polls to take the poll and earn 1 swagbuck.

4. Also, every day, you can click on Ways to Earn and click on Trusted Surveys to win 1 swagbuck. ALSO, if you actually the take surveys, you can earn swagbucks too!

5. Buy things through SB and get SBs. Anything you could imagine-buy thru “Shop and Earn” and get 2 swagbucks for every $1 you spend. Buy something for $50, you get 100 SBs.

6. Codes-this is the most elusive, but fun too. First become a friend of swagbucks on Facebook-they sometimes give out codes on FB. Codes are always time sensitive so that is why they are hard. They will come out and say enter “???” by 4 PM Pacific (7 PM eastern) and get 9 swagbucks. So you enter the code onto the swagbucks.com right hand side and click gimme to get the SBs. Sometimes the codes are on the swagbucks blog, sometimes they are on twitter and lots of times they are on the toolbar where there is a little envelope and it says From TSG (the Swag Guy) He will send you a little code through there so if you ever notice that it goes from 0 to 1 or 2, click on it and see if you can grab the code. I will try to email you guys when codes are out if I get them.

a) You can check the widget on the very bottom of my blog to see if there are swag codes out and it will tell you the location of the code or it will say “no code available at this time”

7. Referrals. Click on Promote. Click on Promote Banners and it will give you your own personal referral link- …so you can just copy and paste your referral link to friends with an explanation of what Swagbucks is
